Kumbhalgarh fort
Rajasthan, the land of Maharajas. Kumbhalgarh Fort is Rajasthan's second-biggest Mewar Rulers fort. Kumbhalgarh in Rajasthan is a truly magnificent sight. It has the marvellous Kumbhalgarh Fort, which is incredibly famous for its beautiful view on Aravali hills.
Kumbhalgarh is a fortress of Mewar on the western range of Aravalli Hills in the Rajsamand district of Rajasthan state of Udaipur in west India. It is a World Heritage Site located in Rajasthan's Hill Forts and built by Rana Kumbha during the 15th Century.
Established over a 15-year period under the expert guidance of the renowned Kumbhalgarh Fort architect called Mandan, it is beautifully situated between eleven peaks of the Aravalli ranges. The strategic position on a high plateau camouflaged by the nearby mountains has rendered it one of the state's most essential and perhaps the only impregnable fort.
Even before you reach the mighty Kumbhalgarh fort in Rajasthan, the strong rounded bastions catch your eye, rising loftily overhead. The well-thought-for fort's architectural features have rendered it an unstoppable Rajput dominance fortress.
There are seven formidable gates, called Pols, which protect all possible entrances to the fort of Kumbhalgarh. You can feel the sounds of antiquity as you walk the fort's impressive ramparts, ideally wide enough for 8 horses to march straight!
The Kumbhalgarh fort wall is India's own Great Wall, being the world's second-longest wall spanning a length of 36 kilometres around the fort's periphery with width ranging from 15-25 feet at various locations. There are tapered openings all along the formidable wall that enabled archers to assault enemy armies while shielding themselves from their counterattack.
The ramp inside the fort, which leads to the top of the hill, has many sharp turns, which purposely made it hard for enemy army elephants and horses to move quickly. There are also sophisticated traps built to take the enemy by surprise in many places. However, this fantastic fort takes everyone by surprise when it comes to the height of Kumbhalgarh Fort, which stands at an elevation of 1100 meters on the Aravalli hill.
The region of the fort includes various significant buildings such as the Kumbha fortress, Badal mahal, Maharana Pratap's birthplace, and an impressive 360 + Brahmanic and Jain temples that surround the landscape. Unlike the central fort and ramparts constructed with solid blocks of stone that have defied the ravages of time, the temples are complex buildings that are delicately crafted.
there are lots of places to visit in Kumbhalgarh, and the most famous and revered temples are the Temple of Neelkanth Mahadev, devoted to Lord Shiva. The temple is an unrivaled architectural feat with its massive round dome, intricately crafted roof aloft 24 pillars, large courtyard, and5-foot high lingam.
The other prominent temples are the temple of Parsvanath Jain, the temple of Bawan Devi (where' Bhawan' applies to the 52 shrines located in the same complex), the temple of Vedi and the temple of Ganesh.
The Kumbha Palace is a double-storeyed structure building with a beautiful blue durbar hall built-in classic Rajput style. As was typical, a hallway divides the mardana (men's) and zenana (women's) palaces. An exciting feature is the advanced ventilation system in the toilets, which required fresh air while they were in use.
It is a steep uphill climb to the highest part of the city, aptly christened the Badal Mahal or Cloud Palace.
Constructed by Rana Fateh Singh, this is one of the most famous buildings inside the fort, designed in an everyday but impressive style of architecture. The palace walls are embellished with elaborate sculptures and friezes. It provides panoramic views over the entire fort and the landscape around it. In the Monsoon months, the view from above is a sight to behold, with lush green hills and ravines so far as the eye can see.
The other two important historical points of interest inside the Kumbhalgarh fort are Maharana Pratap's birthplace named the Jhalia ka Malia near Pagoda Pol, and the spot near the last reinforced gate, Nimbu Pol. This is the position that testifies to the supreme sacrifice of the faithful maid Panna dhai who, by sending her son in his place, rescued the young would-be Maharaja Udai Singh.
