How do I make a meal under 10 dollars? How to Cook Healthy Meals on a Budget This meal cost less than $10 dollars with leftovers. We purchase our groceries in bulk, but our meals cost well under $10. The chicken quarter was around $5 for 10Lbs bag. The bag has about 8 chicken quarters. The leftover was stored in the refrigerator and served with other meals during the week. The 5 Lbs. unbleached flour cost less than $2 at Walmart. We used 6 cups for the bread and 1 cup to feed the sourdough culture. The leftover sourdough bread was turned into sourdough crouton and stored in the freezer. The apple was around $0.99 or less /Lbs. We used salt, sugar, and peanut oil. In the first two videos, we shared how we shopped our freezer for meat and from our garden for our lunch. We harvested greens we planted and wild plants as well. One of these wild plants is garlic mustard (alliaria petiolata) a biennial edible wild green in the mustard and cabbage family (Brassicaceae). 12 min in the 1st video I showed an herb at the ground level. It is call wild thyme (Thymus serpyllum). It is in the mint family (Lamiaceae family). You can use it as a spice in your cooking. We used it in our mild kefir dressing for the salad. Right after wild thyme, I showed winter savory also called mountain savory (Satureja montana). It is also mint or Lamiaceae family. We also harvested broad leaf sorrel (Rumes acetosa) in the Polygonaceae family. I added dandelion leaves (Taraxacum) in the Asteraceae family. We mentioned another spice hardy to zone 5a. It is horseradish (Armoracia rusticana). It is a root spice in the mustard and cabbage family Brassicaceae. We harvested creeping Charlie (Glechoma hederacea) in the mint family Lamiaceae. It is also called ground -ivy or field balm. Creeping Charlie is edible wild plant, and it is medicinal. We shared how to cook from scratch using your garden, pantry, and freezer. We made Wild Salad, baked homemade Sourdough Bread, and served with Baked Chicken. The dressing used on the wild salad was milk kefir dressing.
