[속속곳 / SOKSOKGOT] ‘속속곳’이란, 전통사회의 복식문화에서 평상복 안에 입는 속옷을 지칭하는 말로, 표면적으로 드러나지는 않지만, 한국인들의 일상에 뿌리 깊게 자리 잡은 국악을 직면하여 울림이 깊은 음악을 추구한다는 의미에서 작명되었다. ‘가장 개인적인 것이 가장 창의적인 것이다.’라는 한 영화감독의 발언을 인용하여 개개인의 다양성을 인정하고 서로의 이질적인 문화를 유연하게 수용하는 ‘샐러드 볼(Salad bowl)’ 이론을 단체 결성 이념으로 내세우고 있다. “SOKSOKGOT” refers to the undergarment that is worn under the everyday clothes by those in traditional Korean society. The group chose this name with an intention to face gugak which is deeply rooted in the everyday lives of Korean people, and pursue resonating music. To quote the words of a film director, “The most personal is the most creative.” The group upholds the “salad bowl” theory as their founding principle, in which the diversity of each individual is acknowledged and everyone accepts different cultures flexibly. [Plankton] 판소리 수궁가 중 ‘고고천변’ 대목의 중중모리장단에서 12박 구성의 장단을 착안하여 가사와 선율을 새로이 창작한 곡이다. ‘Plankton’은 수중생물을 생태적으로 구분한 한 무리로서 ‘부유생물’이라고도 한다. 스스로 운동능력이 없거나 수동적으로 행동하는 생물로, 그리스어의 ‘방랑자’라는 말에서 유래했다. ‘속속곳’은 이 노래를 통해 방황하고 있는 사람들의 이야기, 길을 찾고 있는 한국 청년세대를 노래한다. 깊은 물속을 떠다니며 왠지 모를 불안과 두려움을 느끼는 플랑크톤처럼, 험난한 세상 속 바다를 떠가는 별주부와 토끼처럼 이 곡을 듣는 사람들이 무한하게 떠다니는 자신을 발견하고 긍정하며 힘을 얻기를 바라는 마음을 담았다. 더불어 국악과 전자음악의 콜라보를 통해 현시대를 살아가는 대중들과의 친화력을 형성하기를 소망한다. This music is based on the conception of a 12-beat rhythm from the jungjungmori rhythm in the “Gogo cheonbyeon” (On the edge of the sky) part included in the pansori Sugungga (Song of Sea Palace, based on the “Tale of Rabbit and Terrapin”), upon which the lyrics and melodies are newly created. “Plankton” is an ecological classification of a collection of aquatic life, which are also loosely referred to as free-floating organisms. A plankton is an organism that either does not possess its own motor ability or moves passively. The term came from the ancient Greek word for “wanderer.” SOKSOKGOT sings the story of people wandering, the young generation of Koreans searching their paths. People who listen to this music may discover themselves floating infinitely like the plankton, which may somehow feel fear and anxiety floating around the deep sea, or like the terrapin and rabbit floating on the sea of harsh world. SOKSOKGOT, however, conveys their hope that those who listen to their music may acknowledge themselves affirmatively and gain strength from it. In addition, they also hope to form affinity with the contemporary public through the collaboration of gugak and electronic music.
