The attacks were reported simultaneously on Sunday in the cities of Derbent and Makhachkala, where the synagogue and churches were also reportedly set ablaze. According to the Dagestan Public Monitoring Commission, seven law enforcement officers, a priest and a church security guard were killed, while Russian news agency TASS reported that four armed "militants" have also been killed. The head of the Dagestan Republic said that identities of the attackers are being established, while urging the public to remain calm.
