In this in-depth video, we shed light on the intensifying conflict between two groups – the indigenous Meiteis and a foreign tribal community called the Kukis – over land rights, ancestral territory, and the disturbing consequences that have ensued. The Meitei people, or Meetei people, form the largest and dominant ethnic group of Manipur in Northeast India. They speak Meitei language. The Meiteis primarily settled in the Imphal Valley region in modern-day Manipur. At the heart of the issue lies the unjust allocation of land. The Meiteis, who are the original inhabitants of Manipur, have been shockingly granted a mere 6 percent of the land, despite their historical connection and deep-rooted ties to the region. This staggering discrepancy becomes even more evident when the foreign tribal group receives over 90 percent of the ancestral territory, leaving the Meiteis marginalized and aggrieved. As the Meiteis raise their voices to demand their rightful share and recognition, their pleas are met with hostility from the Kukis, leading to violent rampages and clashes. The intensity of the violence has reached alarming levels, plunging the region into chaos and uncertainty.
