| Video Discription | The Direct Entry MSN program at Marquette University is a nursing program that allows you to transfer your knowledge from a previous degree to a career in nursing. It has three primary components: online coursework, simulation labs, and clinical rotations. The first component of the Direct Entry MSN program is nursing theory coursework. Our Milwaukee Direct Entry MSN program delivers courses on-campus, with some hybrid coursework, while our Direct Entry MSN program based in Pleasant Prairie follows a format where online nursing theory coursework is delivered through a dynamic e-Learning platform. In online courses in the Pleasant Prairie-based program, you will follow a synchronous learning format, meeting weekly and interacting with your professors in real time. “It’s not just the lectures, actually we’re engaging. They’re asking us questions, we’re giving them answers,” says Direct Entry MSN student Preneice. Since the Pleasant Prairie-based Direct Entry MSN program follows a hybrid format, the simulation labs consist of a combination of online virtual simulation labs and in-person labs. Both forms of labs will allow you to apply what you learn in your nursing theory coursework and prepare you to treat real-life patients in a low-stakes scenario. During virtual simulations, “you go into a virtual room and you provide cares on the patient.” Whereas with in-person simulation labs, as Preneice says, “we come in here and we do hands-on care with the manikin.” The third component of Marquette’s Direct Entry MSN program is clinical rotations, which where you experience working with real patients in real clinical settings. For Direct Entry MSN student Tristan, this was of the utmost importance. “Marquette really gives us all that patient interaction. It’s huge in our success in school and as future nurses. It just makes us better providers in the future,” Tristan says. Clinicals are also an opportunity to begin building connections and start thinking about where you will spend your career as a nurse. Madaline even met a Marquette graduate during her clinicals. “She’s now a charge nurse and she just graduated. But they saw her potential and she’s now doing very well,” Madaline says.
