Founded in 1989, it is directed by two legends of medieval music: Brigitte Lesne and Pierre Hamon. In this program an entire cultural universe is resurrected, where the langue d'oïl and Hebrew are closely intertwined. Songs from the Jewish communities living in Northern France in the second half of the 13th century have been transmitted in the Hebrew alphabet and they use the melodies of minstrels, their contemporaries. (https://cmm-paris.fr/) About the manuscript used as background, it is the legendary "Rothschild Miscellany": commissioned by Moses ben Yekuthiel Hakohen in 1479. In that period the Jewish people in Italy prospered and adopted the ways of the aristocracy of the time, coming into contact with some of the most prestigious Italian families such as the Medici of Florence and the Este of Ferrara. The manuscript, probably made in a Ferrarese workshop, takes up the style of the best artists who worked for the Este court. The manuscript is now kept in Jerusalem at the Israel Museum.
