That begins when the Culex mosquito feeds on dead migratory birds or wild birds infected with the disease, then bites a human. This mosquito bites humans and transmits the disease to them. Various of the area, occupied Palestinian territories in the background STORYLINE: Jordan is taking preventative measures against the West Nile virus after cases were reported in a neighboring country. The virus was last detected in Jordan in 2020 and no cases have been reported in the country since, said Dr. Ayman Magableh, a senior official at the Ministry of Health. However with cases reported in nearby Israel, Jordanian authorities have been carrying out pesticide spraying campaigns to combat the mosquitoes that carry the virus. The Israeli Ministry of Health reported in its website that at least 356 people have been diagnosed with West Nile fever, and 19 have died from the disease this year. Mosquitoes can carry not just the West Nile but dengue, yellow fever, chikungunya and Zika and are threatening the public health in Asia and Africa. Jordanian prevention efforts are concentrated in the Jordan Valley region, a fertile environment for mosquitoes to breed because of the stagnant water swamps and high humidity there. The authorities are educating people about the virus and how they can keep themselves safe.
