I think we didn't explore Girona to the fullest extent, but others could make it a more productive day trip! I think the Joan Miró Foundation / Botanical Garden is a must see especially for museum enthusiasts. Nowadays I enjoy museums quite a bit, and we spent hours in there. While at no point during our trip were we concerned with safety (re: racism), there was a surprising (?) number of people that would shout random chinese phrases or wave their hands in our faces to get our attention in Barcelona. I don't know why!! This really was not a problem in France, but we were also only there for less time. There were plenty of things to eat and see in Montpellier, and I was really happy during my time there. Interestingly, water was free at restaurants except at Pastis (Michelin star 30 euro menu). Most people were very kind, and shockingly my French sufficed as a lot of people would reply in French (which I would then whip out the "parlez-vous anglais?" sheepishly...). Also it is amazing how the botanical garden there is the oldest in France! The pastries really changed my life lol. I thought pastries in SF were already really good, but the pain au chocolat was somehow half the weight but the same size. I really wanted to try a home-style French meal and La Ferme de Marguerite was the perfect find. We high key struggled because not one ounce of English was spoken but the couple working there was so sweet and didn't get frustrated. All good in the end.
