Many people would like to do a mini tummy tuck if possible, but that's only applicable in certain situations. With pregnancy, obviously there's changes in the abdominal wall that happen, most of which don't get better again afterwards. One of those is that the muscles of the abdominal wall, the rectus muscles, separate. They stay separated after the pregnancy is over and after your weight is back to normal, no matter how much work you do with them. So, if that separation in the muscles is a big issue that can't be addressed with a mini tummy tuck. It requires a full tummy tuck. Also, the skin of the abdominal wall is stretched, and it's stretched beyond it's ability to retract. If that has happened above the belly button, then we're really not a candidate for a mini tummy tuck either. The mini tummy tuck addresses the tissue from the groin up to the belly button, and we can do some liposuction above the belly button. That would help with the fullness of the tissue, but if the skin is lax, it tends to actually hood more over the belly button and creates a deformity if we try to utilize that, when the real problem needs a full tummy tuck. Also, with the mini tummy tuck, we pull down on things and take away extra skin, so it does help that lower portion quite a bit, but it doesn't address the muscle issues that can be underlying that. Some people, it's the perfect answer for, because that's really their only problem area, but we don't want to use the wrong tool for the wrong job and end up with an unhappy patient.
