| Video Discription | June 1 is the date when the monsoons arrive in the Indian state of Kerala. This year the IMD had announced that monsoons were to reach a weak earlier. However, that is not happening according to the weather agency’s announcement on May 26. The monsoons will arrive in Kerala as per schedule, but there may be a pause in the rains from thereon. Most parts of the country will only receive below-average rainfall during the first two weeks of the monsoon. From May 27- to June 2, Only Kerala, Odisha and Lakshadweep will experience rainfall while the rest of India will remain dry. Even in Kerala, the rainfall will be 18% below normal from the climatological average of 55.8 mm, as IMD has predicted. Odisha will receive 8.7mm while Lakshadweep will get 77.4mm of rainfall. Most of India during this phase will see a rainfall deficit of -20% to -99%. The first week of monsoons will be dry in most parts of India, including Kerala. Normal rainfall is expected in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, coastal Andhra Pradesh and the seven Northeastern states. Rayalseema, a part of Western Andhra Pradesh is expected to get above normal rainfall during this week. The rest of India will get below normal rainfall during this week. A dry spell will sweep the country, with Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Jharkhand and Orissa expected to receive 50% below-average rainfall.
