The picturesque village on the Ceresio is in fact registered in the Federal Inventory (ISOS) of the villages to be protected. The characteristic streets, the arcades of the ancient patrician houses, architectural monuments of great value and a luxuriant subtropical vegetation, make Morcote the "Pearl of Ceresio". Of significant artistic and cultural interest, as well as architectural, are the church of Santa Maria del Sasso, the terraced cemetery, the monumental staircase and the Torre del Capitano. Those who love nature can let themselves be led through the beautiful Scherrer Park, where an impressive world of subtropical flora awaits them. Intimate and welcoming, Morcote has all the characteristics of a tourist center that invites guests to a relaxing stay. The picturesque village winds along the lakefront with characteristic houses embellished with loggias and arcades: among these stands Paleari palace, an elegant stately home built in 1483 and transformed in 1661. The stucco decoration of the facade is by Abbondio Paleari (1661). Between the houses rises the Torre del Capitano (XIV century) whose upper part was beheaded; above the main door there are traces of frescoes and a Gothic mullioned window. A steep staircase leads to the beautiful complex formed by the church of S. Maria del Sasso, the cemetery and the chapel of S. Antonio da Padova. Along the slope you will find the chapel of S.
