| Video Discription | Murano Millefiori is a special kind of art glass that is crafted using tiny pieces of Millefiori glass cane. These Millefiori glass canes (also known as Murrina in Venice) are specially made using a complex glass-making process. Each Millefiori cane has multiple layers set up in such a way as to make up flowery or geometric design at its cross-section. By mixing small pieces of such canes (mosaic) with transparent and colored glass, and gold and silver leaf, Murano artisans were able to create unique designs reminiscent of the ancient mosaics that grace Basilica di San Marco in Venice. In this video you see how a Murano Glass master dips a blob of colored glass into Millefiori mosaics and silver foil to create a vase with multi-color design, which is ever-popular among fans and lovers of Murano Glass art, as well as visitors to Venice. This involves a complex multi-step process involving several masters, different stages of shaping and blowing glass, and many steps involving the special furnace where glass reaches the required malleable state, in which it can be manipulated using the special glass-makers' tools.
