| Video Discription | Video demonstration of the upper limb myotome muscle tests. Myotomes – roughly translates to ‘muscle sections. We test myotomes to determine if nerve damage has occurred and attempt to determine which nerve and spinal level this has occurred. Muscles are often innervated by more than one nerve so the myotomes relate to the muscle group most associated with each spinal nerve root. We test them to assess for nerve injury, to monitor symptoms and to track recovery. While they have a limited accuracy, there is currently not a better alternative that can be used in general clinical practice. Recent Research indicates cervical myotome testing is of great value in determining the pathological level. However, it should be noted that there is high variability in both dermatomes and myotomes, especially for motor weakness due to C6 root compression, which is more variable than others. QHyXSt6HsvQ |
