| Video Discription | Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) is a system of central schools for talented students predominantly from rural areas in India, targeting gifted students who lack access to accelerated learning due to financial, social and rural disadvantages. Approximately 0.6% (6 out of 1000) boys and girls of age 10, in each catchment area are chosen via a complex battery of verbal, arithmetic and visual cognitive abilities tests. A direct result of the modern reforms in India, Navodayas are reputed for generating more than 200,000 alumni serving in all walks of Indian society (spanning sciences, engineering, Indian administrative services, theatre and arts and grassroot professionals in teaching, nursing, military) and are considered a role model success story in gifted children education programs in independent India. Navodaya students are routinely represented at national sports competitions, national day celebrations, international student events out performing better funded and urban school systems. They are run by Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, Noida, an autonomous organization under the Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education (MoE),[a] Government of India. JNVs are fully residential and co-educational schools affiliated to Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi, with classes from VI to XII standard. JNVs are specifically tasked with finding talented children in rural areas of India through JNVST (JNV Selection Test) and providing them with an education equivalent to the best residential school system, without regard to their families' socio-economic condition. The Budget for Education, Boarding and activities at JNVs are provided by the Ministry of Education, Government of India and it's free of cost for the students during the 7 years of stay. JNVs exist all over India, with the exception of Tamil Nadu. As of 30 September 2019, 636 JNVs were running with about 265,574 students enrolled, out of which 206,728 (≈78%) were from rural areas.
