That’s coming up next on the BEAT. Hey what’s up everybody my name is Allen Parr thank you so much for visiting my channel. Here on the BEAT we release a new video every Tuesday and today I want answer the question, “What do you do? How do you respond when someone close to you continues to mistreat you whether it may be at work, at church or even at home?” In Rom. 12 Paul gives us 6 clear steps on how to handle it. Number 1 1. Speak Well & Don’t Curse them – Paul says, “Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse.” As difficult as it is try and find something positive to say about them, wish the best for them, pray for them, while at the same time resisting the temptation to gossip about them, ruin their reputation or speak negatively about them. 2. Set an Example for others – Paul says, “Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone.” Other people are watching you and when you take the high road and consistently seek good for those who mistreat you are setting the example of great character for others to emulate.” 3. Initiate Peace – Notice he says, “If it is possible [meaning sometimes it isn’t], as far as it depends on you [meaning you can’t control the other person; only your own actions], live at peace with everyone.” Even if the person you are in conflict with is wrong God still says you do EVERYTHING in your power to initiate peace in the relationships because if the relationship doesn’t work you can say that you did your part to seek reconciliation. 4. Leave room for God – Next he says, “Do not take revenge…but LEAVE ROOM for God’s wrath.” When we seek to get even ourselves I believe this verse implies that God takes His hands off of it and says, “well if you think you can do a better job then you handle it.” Take your hands off of the situation. God says it belongs to Him anyway. Leave room for God to do KNOWING by faith that no injustice or mistreatment escapes His view. 5. Do Something Good for them – Paul says, “On the contrary, when your enemy is hungry, feed him…when you do you will heap burning coals on his head.” When you do something good for someone who doesn’t deserve it your good actions will often times cause them to feel convicted and ashamed because they will naturally compare their mistreatment towards you to your good forcing them to come face to face with their own behavior. 6. Don’t Allow Someone Else to Change your Character – Finally, Paul says, “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” In other words, be careful NOT to allow someone else’s evil and mistreatment to turn you into an evil person all because you want to get revenge because when you do you not only have become just as low as them but you’ve also given someone else control over your own emotions. So guys, you may be in a difficult situation at work, at church, or even in your own home. I want to encourage you today to do what God is requiring of you and to trust God’s word because it works. By faith, resist the urge to get even and trust that in God’s timing He will not only bless you for responding with character but He will also deal with the person who is mistreating you. r7NEOOUgTZc |
