Security personnel and locals inspecting site STORYLINE: A suicide bomber on a motorcycle rammed into a Pakistan Air Force bus on Thursday, killing at least eight men and wounding about 40, the latest in a wave of attacks targeting President General Pervez Musharraf's military-led government, officials said. The assailant struck around 7 a.m. (0200GMT) near an air base in Sargodha, about 200 kilometres (125 miles) south of Islamabad, an air force spokesman said. All the dead were air force employees, said an official at the hospital treating the victims. The bus targeted Thursday was completely destroyed, a Sargodha police chief, adding that investigators had collected body parts of the attacker. A local man who had happened to be near the scene of the attack told AP Television that he heard a loud explosion before flames and smoke engulfed the bus. "We all ran to the spot and we saw lot of injured there," he said, adding passers-by and residents helped rescuers transport the dead and wounded to hospitals. Pakistan has been rocked by a string of suicide bombings in recent weeks, deepening political turmoil ahead of a Supreme Court ruling on whether Musharraf's October 6 presidential victory was constitutional. There are fears he could impose a state of emergency if judges rule against him, jeopardising the country's transition to civilian rule. Such worries forced former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto - who ended eight years in exile last month so she could contest upcoming parliamentary elections - to abruptly cancel plans to visit family members in Dubai late Wednesday. Her October 18 homecoming was the target of the deadliest-ever suicide attack in Pakistan, claiming more than 140 lives. Earlier this week a bomber blew himself up near Musharraf's army office in Rawalpindi, a garrison city just south of Islamabad, killing seven. There have been no claims of responsibility for the recent attacks, but most have been blamed on extremists, who also have engaged in deadly clashes with the military in the volatile northwest.
