The historic centre of the city is dominated by a huge structure, the Meherangarh Fort. Udaipur is one of the most beautiful and romantic cities in India and its history began with the conquest of Chittorgarh by Mughal Akhbar in 1568. The City Palace has frequently been extended since the end of the 16th century and it is now the largest palace in Rajasthan. To the west of Udaipur is the eighty hectare open-air Shilpgram Museum that provides a fascinating insight into India’s traditional architecture and daily life. At first glance Agra is like any other major city in Northern India, full of exotic atmosphere and energy. But it is the home of the Taj Mahal, one of the most famous buildings in the world and a unique mausoleum that is the highlight of any journey to India.
