Ketika perjalanan mulia tersebut, Nabi mengendarai hewan bersayap serta berukuran besar, badannya bahkan melebihi keledai, berwarna putih dan panjang. Hewan ini disebut sebagai Buraaq dan satu langkahnya mampu menempuh jarak amat jauh dalam sekejap sampai sejuta mata memandang. Dan dalam perjalanan inilah Nabi Muhammad melewati tujuh tingkat langit kemudian bertemu para penghuninya di setiap tingkatan langit itu. Inilah para penghuni langit ke 1 hingga ke 7.
