| Video Discription | We will populate one dropdown list box by using data from MySQL table. For this we will use ID and Name columns of our student table as value and option of the drop down list. https://www.plus2net.com/php_tutorial/list-table.php We will connect to Database first by using config.php file. Inside this file we kept our MySQL login details and used the connection object $connection in our script. We prepare one SELECT query to collect all the records with ID and Name columns. By executing the query we will get a record set from MySQL database having these two columns. We will use one while loop to return one row of data as array in each loop execution by using fetch_array() as condition. Our fetch_array() function will return the row of data and the record pointer will move to next record. After returning last record fetch_array() will return NULL which is same as False and while loop will end. This row array will have two elements i.e id and name. We will use data of id as option value and name as displayed option. This while loop will be inside our SELECT and /SELECT tags so all rows will be used as options of the dropdown select box. So our while loop will end after going through all rows of returned result set of student table. We can further filter our data by adding WHERE condition to our Query. Our list box will display only the students of a particular class ( say Five ) by using WHERE condition with class=’Five’ . Similarly we can display records having ID less than 10 by using WHERE id less than 10. This data filtering can be done by using different conditions using WHERE. We can display error message generated by wrong SQL statement by using the ELSE code block. The code kept inside the IF condition is executed if SQL statement is executed successfully. These conditions can be simulated by using wrong table name inside the query. The code can be further improved by linking two dropdown list boxes in next Video Tutorial. HbuhFO8L4nQ |
