| Video Discription | Miscarriages is the loss of pregnancy during the first 23 weeks, miscarriages are much more common than most people realize. Among women who know that they are pregnant, 1 in 5 individuals have a risk of miscarriage, that is 20%. 3 or more miscarriages are called recurrent miscarriages. First trimester miscarriages are mostly due to chromosomal anomalies in the fetus. Miscarriages in the second trimester is due to underlying pathology in the mother. If there is any problem in the development of the placenta, there will be miscarriage. Late miscarriages will be because of infection around the baby causing the rupture of the bag of the membrane to rupture even before pain and bleeding. Also there is incompetence of the cervix which causes miscarriage. A majority of the miscarriages cannot be prevented. There are some things which we can do to prevent the miscarriages, which include eating a balanced diet, take any good nutrition, avoid smoking and alcohol, obesity causes miscarriage when BMI is more than 30. Loosing weight before pregnancy is very important, taking folic acid supplements 2 -3 months before pregnancy is important. Tests for thyroid disease, diabetes should be treated before the patient going for the next pregnancy. The anatomical causes in the uterus or any fibroids or masses in the uterus can always be treated by surgery. Weakened cervix, that is incompetence of the cervix can be treated by a small surgery called cervical encephalage, we put a stitch around the uterus to keep the mouth of the uterus tightly closed. This stich is applied around 14 weeks of pregnancy. Antiphospholipid syndrome is another condition causes blood clot and causes recurrent miscarriages, can be treated by medicines like aspirin and heparin and pregnancy outcomes of women gets improved in these conditions.
