British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who is facing troubles back home in Britain, was also present and stressed the importance of diplomatic ties between the West and Iran. Following the impromptu meeting between the three leaders, Johnson and Rouhani conducted a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of UNGA. Addressing the General Assembly Tuesday, President Trump pointed to Iran as one of the greatest global threats, saying it oppresses its citizens at home while fueling conflicts and terrorism beyond its borders. He said as long as this continues, U.S. sanctions will not be lifted, they will be tightened.
