| Video Discription | High vs low competition niches.... Which should you target? This is a frequently asked question in relation to KDP. In this video, I share with you my opinion on this - although I have definitely pursued both low and high competition niches and suggest that you do the same. By deciding to go into a competitive niche, I recently ended up with a high selling book, selling over 700 copies in March alone. While it wasn't easy, it was worth persevering with. Read in depth blog post here: https://ragstoniches.com/kdp-low-content-publishing-niches-go-low-or-high I always start my niche research & keyword research directly on Amazon and there is a simple method I follow to determine whether to go into a niche or not. At least, this is the very first stage and I outline that below. I suggest when you are researching, you also go into incognito mode. Otherwise the results will be biased towards things you tend to look for. This is the same for everyone of course but it’s as good as a blank slate as you’re going to get. I ask myself the following questions about books showing up on pages 1 and 2 of the search results for keywords I’m checking out. - Is the book Selling? (Ideally a BSR of 500k or lower - some will only go lower than this but I won't rule it out). Has it been published recently? (In the last 6-12 months). - Can I compete with this book? (Ideally not too many reviews & I am able to create something AT LEAST as good as design wise). If I can answer yes to these questions, then it’s going to be something I now look into further.
