Josh learned the language through singing, and developed a love for the songs that taught him Nepali. He took a job teaching in a village in Nepal, a two-day walk from the nearest road. There he met Khem Raj Gurung, the school's music teacher. He says they started singing together, and then they started performing. His love of Nepali folk music led to the surprising result of national pop stardom. Known by his Nepalese name, Gajab Bahadur, Josh became the first foreigner to record original Nepali songs. He has released a CD and a number of music videos in Nepal. Khem Raj Gurung was a famous musician and singer of Nepali music industry. His many songs such as "Wari Jamuna Pari Jamuna" and "Bhanchan Budapakale" were the biggest chartbusters of their release year. He was known for singing traditional and cultural songs having moral values. He was one of the top singers during the decade of 1990s and 2000s.
