The Chesapeake Bay is one of the world’s most productive coastal water bodies, and it collects water from Fairfax County streams and rivers. We all need to do our part to keep its tributaries clean.

One of the biggest ways everyone can help protect our waterways is to properly dispose of trash including plastic items that are not bio-degradable.

Learn more about the bay and get involved in keeping it clean as we recognize Chesapeake Bay Awareness Week, June 1-9: https://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/news/learn...

2024 Fairfax County Foster Parent of the Year

Director, External Communications Greg Licamele from Fairfax County Government · 20 May

Congratulations to Calvin Dyson. He’s been recognized as the 2024 Fairfax County Foster Parent of the Year by the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments.

Calvin’s desire to make the world a better place led him down the path to adopting two sons and fostering additional children. Although he was not a fluent Spanish speaker when he began his adoption journey, Calvin immersed himself in learning all that he could about his adoptive son’s country of origin and native language. Calvin learned that by using physical gestures and Google Translate they could communicate without knowing the same language.

Today, over 200 Fairfax County children are in foster care. The Department of Family Services' Foster Care and Adoption Program offers temporary foster homes for these children and services to help their families.
