A new look at used cars

About us

Yes… we know, another car review channel, but don’t be fooled into thinking we’re just the same as all the others. While most car review websites focus on the latest, greatest new cars, at ReDriven we’re only interested in used cars. It’s obvious that buying a used car differs greatly from buying a new car. There are different things to consider; what goes wrong with them? What are they like now they have thousands of kilometres on the clock? Now that it’s out of warranty will this car just be a giant money pit? Globally, for every new car sold there are around four used cars sold. That’s a big part of the car sales market that has no dedicated content to help with buying decisions. ReDriven are here to help. We focus on cars at least 3-5 years old, are coming out of or have no warranty and have thousands and thousands of kilometres on the clock. Join Adam and Jim as they lift the lid on the best and worst used cars on the market.

Great to see used car content is becoming the most consumed auto review content, eclipsing all the traditional new car review channels. In April, ReDriven was the fastest-growing car review channel in Australia. A couple of months back we also launched The ReDriven Podcast and it's quickly become one of the most popular auto podcasts, ahead of some of the biggest names in the auto space. Have a listen if you haven't already! - https://spoti.fi/4bf8YBu

Yesterday ReDriven turned 3 years old, and what a joy it's been to see it grow beyond our wildest predictions. We're closing in on the end of another year and it's been our strongest month to date on YouTube. Wrapping up the year as the No. 1 used car review channel in Australia, and compared to the usual suspects in the domestic car review game, the 3rd most watched, and the 2nd fastest growing. Bring on 2024 💪

While the ReDriven YouTube channel continues to go from strength to strength, the website is still very much in its infancy. But one thing we've come to learn while trying to track its progress is to take any of the analytics claimed by Similarweb with an enormous grain of salt. The two screenshots tell the story. Seemingly, it pays to be wary of any web traffic claims missing the Google-verified badge. Below is the comparison of the numbers from the same period of time, one is Google Analytics-verified, the other is the unverified number from Similarweb. While it would be nice to trust the claim of a quarter million visits, I think we still have a ways to go. Has anyone else experienced the wildly inaccurate numbers? Is there better software out there? #keeppushingtowardssimilarwebclaim!

TL;DR - Don't fall into the trap of thinking you can 'production value' your way to quality, meaningful content. In the YouTube game, production value doesn't matter. -- On the odd occasion the owner of our review car tags along to our shoot, they're always amazed when we pull out an Apple iPhone to start recording. Expecting the usual array of cameras, tripods and audio recorders. We've been using an iPhone to shoot our videos and stills for the past 7 months and we can say with absolute certainty, we will never shoot on anything more 'traditional' again. Have any viewers noticed in that time? One, and the reaction was amazement. Think about that, switching from publishing a video shot with around $10,000 worth of gear one week, to shooting with an iPhone the next, only one viewer noticed, and even that was only because they saw it in a reflection. There are plenty of technical reasons why shooting on an iPhone works for us, none of which we will bore you with now, but the main reason is because we can. Producing meaningful content that finds success on YouTube is a complex thing to get right, but it's important to remember, production quality is not one of the sticking points. Sam Rawlings, our co-founder and video producer, remembers at a previous workplace, 10s of thousands of dollars were spent on cinema-grade camera gear, and dozens of hours spent talking about frame rates, resolution and colour science and how our content could be improved by those things. Meanwhile, competitors would get 100x the views and engagement from videos shot with a $500 GoPro. For at least the past couple of years, the video quality found in smartphones has been more than enough to satisfy the quality viewers are willing to accept on YouTube. Of course, 'professional' equipment will still have its place, but your content is only as good as the people on either side of the camera. #iphone #video #shotoniphone #appleiphone #youtube

While the ReDriven YouTube channel continues to be one of Australia's most-watched and fastest-growing auto channels, our website, ReDriven.com is where we have set our sights moving forward. We've cracked 100,000+ monthly views, seen a 35% increase in the last 90 days, and clocked traffic coming from every corner of the globe. All without spending a single dollar on paid search, SEO or marketing. We need to say a massive thank you to CFS Group. As well as giving us the means to offer a pathway to buy cars through ReDriven.com, our content partnership has meant we've been able to steal substantial ground in search results from much more established, and deep-pocketed, publications. Further, our recent partnership with Driva, has given viewers a transparent and hassle-free path to finance. Needless to say, our plans to build a true one-stop-shop for the abundant, but completely overlooked, used car buyers in Australia are well underway. Watch this space.

Another great month on YouTube for ReDriven! Needless to say, it's clear that viewers are loving the authenticity and uniqueness that ReDriven provides. While we don't see much value in the constant comparisons with those around us (mainly because we don't actually have any competition in the used car space), for those playing at home, these stats rank ReDriven as the third most-watched auto review channel in Australia and the second fastest growing based on subscribers. And it's achieved with a team of less than 5 and a budget smaller than most company's coffee bill. Together with our exclusive content deal with CFS Group, giving ReDriven readers and viewers an easy path from content to classifieds, plus our distribution partnership with Radar MCN, we're incredibly excited for the next 12 months.
