      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Wednesday isn't exactly full of woe for viewers, but without Jenna Ortega in the lead, this Addams Family-adjacent series might as well be another CW drama.

Nick Schager The Daily Beast Misbegotten on almost every front, it mines its name-brand IP for familiar romance and horror, and proves all the more depressing for being the handiwork of the very artist who decades ago pioneered such macabre teen terrain: Tim Burton. Jan 30, 2023 Full Review Geordie Gray The Australian These reboots usually suck (see: Tales of the City) but, to my surprise and delight, Netflix’s new Addams Family spin-off, Wednesday, works a charm. Dec 3, 2022 Full Review Nina Metz Chicago Tribune It works best when it’s simply being funny. The heavy plotting around a mysterious supernatural something or other? Very, very mid, but you need something to propel the story forward enough to stretch it out for eight episodes. Rated: 2.5/4 Dec 1, 2022 Full Review Rick Bentley KGET-TV (Bakersfield, CA) Jenna Ortega does a masterful job of finding the right angst and macabre comedy to play the young member of the Addams Family. Rated: A- Apr 4, 2024 Full Review Allison Rose FlickDirect Jenna Ortega perfectly embodies Wednesday Addams, turning her unique dance into a viral sensation. Rated: 4.5/5 Mar 25, 2024 Full Review Jackson Weaver CBC News [W]hile the teenage drama swirling around her feels stale, Wednesday is saved by every second spent on Wednesday herself.... But in bringing back the Addamses ... you can't help but be a little depressed after imagining what was possible. Rated: 3/5 Oct 16, 2023 Full Review Read all reviews

Star S This reboot didn’t give exactly what I thought it would. The acting is good but the story is kind of boring. Hopefully season 2 will be better, the Wednesday romance saved s1 imo so we will see how s2 can do without it. This this more “horror” with Ortega’s input sounds more promising. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 05/12/24 Full Review Steven C 5 stars!!! What a great script writing and dialogue. The mystery can be maintained until the last episode. The genres are well mixed. Great casting. Loved the ice cold Jenna Ortega. Overall, it feels like the dark theme of Harry Potter. I need more movie like this. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/06/24 Full Review Korra N A very great first season that's bogged down every so often by an unwanted love triangle plot thread. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/30/24 Full Review Gareth v More often than not these spin-off's/remakes fall flat, but with Wednesday they manage to maintain the spooky charm of the source material while taking it in a refreshing new direction. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/16/24 Full Review A B Jenna Ortega was magnificent as Wednesday, big shoes to fill especially when Christina Ricci has been the face of Wednesday in recent decades. Emma Myers was brilliant as well, love the connection between her and Thing. Overall a brilliant series and definitely will be watching Season 2. It was great that they got Tim Burton to actually direct the first 4 episodes to set the tone of the series, hope that won't wear off by time. The only thing in not fascinated about was Wednesday's romance. It was just too cheesy for a goth. That works well with Enid who's almost High School Musical. Goth girl with weird family hooks with with (almost) normal boy is not so Wednesday imho. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 04/16/24 Full Review Daniel and f Tim Burton hasn't made many TV shows but this stands it's ground even 2 years after the last episode can't wait for s2 (when it eventually comes out) Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/10/24 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
