Abdul Kalam was an Indian scientist and politician who served as the 11th President of India from 2002 to 2007. He was born on October 15, 1931, in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, India. His full name was Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam. Kalam graduated from the Madras Institute of Technology in 1960 with a degree in aerospace engineering. He joined the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) as a scientist and was later transferred to the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). He played a pivotal role in the development of India's first satellite launch vehicle, SLV-III, which successfully launched the Rohini satellite in 1983. In 1992, Kalam became the Chief Scientific Adviser to the Prime Minister of India and later served as the Secretary of the Defence Research and Development Organisation from 1992 to 1999. He was also involved in India's nuclear weapons program and is considered the "father" of the country's missile technology. Kalam was known as the "People's President" during his tenure as President of India, as he focused on promoting education and scientific research, particularly among young people. He was also known for his humility and simplicity, and often spoke of his upbringing and the influence of his parents on his life. Kalam was a prolific author and wrote several books, including "Wings of Fire," an autobiography that details his life and work. He was awarded numerous honors and awards during his lifetime, including the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian award, in 1997. On July 27, 2015, Kalam suffered a heart attack and passed away while delivering a lecture at the Indian Institute of Management Shillong. He was 83 years old at the time of his death. His legacy lives on, as he continues to be an inspiration to millions of people, particularly young people, in India and around the world.
