With his actual wealth being unknown, it's hard to say with certainty whether this is true or not. However, what can be said unequivocally, is that Mansa Musa was an incredibly wealthy man. So wealthy in fact, that when he travelled through Egypt in 1324, he spent so much gold in Cairo that the value of bullion decreased by 20 percent!
