| Video Discription | Although designed to combat the latest tanks the West could field, the T-62’s first combat actions would actually be against other Communist nations. In late August of 1968, T-62s of the First Guards Tank Army crossed the border between East Germany and Czechoslovakia as part of the Soviet Union’s invasion of the latter in response to liberal reforms by the Czech government. The invasion did not meet serious resistance by the Czechoslovakian Army, and following the repeal of earlier reforms, Soviet troops would remain in the country until the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991. As most of the tank units involved in the invasion did not come from the Group of Soviet Forces in Germany, the overwhelming majority of tanks involved in the invasion were T-54s and T-55s, which made up perhaps 80% of the tanks in the invasion force, with the remaining tanks being T-62s or T-10M heavy tanks.
