| Video Discription | From what I've read these were recorded during the siege of Leningrad, potentially one of the first recordings of the USSR anthem before it was officially adopted in 1944. The siege of Leningrad lasted several years and had killed around 800,000 innocent people. The Nazi forces surrounded the city and starved the people to the extent that they were eating pets and even sawdust just to survive. The Soviets forces were only able to resupply the city through a frozen lake during the winter deemed the corridor of life. The siege was lifted in January of 1944 and the Soviets would go on to push the Nazi forces back to Berlin, ending the war. pRRB5_34FbM |
