These norms dictate social order; social order is found when an action is accepted or unaccepted. All groups throughout the world have norms that are different for each situation. All norms are taught from early childhood and change through the stages of life. The norms learned through life are dictated by a dominant culture.. However, not everyone is affected by these so called rules. When a person loses interest over a norm it is called anomie. An anomie can also be classified as deviance because it is a choice to defy rules and regulations. The most common setting for norms is an elevator, a meeting, or a classroom. When asked to defy some type a norm I decided to break a classroom norm. I’ve always followed the rules and respected the teacher. My assignment in creative writing was to make a poem that made a shape. When I finished I got in front of the classroom and turn my camera on and videotaped myself dancing in a dead quiet classroom. I was very nervous because I knew these people and they were going to judge me. While I was dancing I eased up. I was having fun because dancing like a maniac has always brought joy to me. I wouldn’t do this again unless I had to. It felt good to be goofy and silly and not care what my classmates thought. Life is only as serious as you make it and allow it to be.
