SO.., IF THIS VIDEO IS NOT AVAILABLE FOR USA VIEWING,.., YOU ALL KNOW WHY.. --------- This is a series of clips and words about some of Grandfather Chief Spotted Elk's a(.k.a.: Chief Big Foot's)... life. and ways.. ----------------------------------------- Spotted Elk (Lakota: Uŋpȟáŋ Glešká, sometimes spelled OH-PONG-GE-LE-SKAH or Hupah Glešká: 1826 approx – December 29, 1890), was the name of a chief of the Miniconjou, Lakota Sioux. He was a son of Miniconjou chief Lone Horn and became a chief upon his father's death. He was a highly renowned chief with skills in war and negotiations. A United States Army soldier, at Fort Bennett, coined the derogatory nickname Big Foot (Si Tȟáŋka). The night of arrival at Wounded Knee Big Foot and his people found themselves in a deboggle, and were surrounded by armed soldiers from all angles. Colonel James Forsyth was the man sent to take charge of the soldiers and direct them to do what was necessary, unarm the Lakota. As one can imagine, the temper of the Indians was extremely high and unsettling because of the feeling of having absolutely no power. The US soldiers were always in a hatred manner toward the Indians because they were told to believe the Indians were on their land and they needed to be moved off it. When a shot mistakenly, or not, was fired in the exchange of weapons, the white soldiers fired at will and high powered-rapid firing cannons were set off. Known as the Wounded Knee Massacre, 290 men, women and children were murdered in cold blood including the Chief of the Lakota, Chief Big Foot. ----------------------------------------------------- I claim no ownership of any of the clips, video and words expressed in this video...and employ my borrowing of them with much respect and thanks.
