5 Quick Canon Facts about DARTH BANE-Long before the events of The Clone Wars, Lord, Darth Bane, revolutionized a Sith Order that found themselves on the precipice of annihilation. Darth Bane was a legendary human male Dark Lord of the Sith and the sole survivor of the destruction of the Brotherhood of Darkness at the hands of the Jedi Order during the Jedi-Sith War a thousand years before the Clone Wars. Darth Bane, then reorganized the Sith Order and created the doctrine that was known as the Rule of Two. According to Darth Bane, this doctrine stated that there could be only two Sith at any given time: a Sith master and a Sith apprentice. From that point forward, Darth Bane vowed that the Sith would operate in the shadows, with a master and apprentice plotting and scheming to implement the Sith Grand Plan, which was to topple the Jedi Order and the Galactic Republic. The vendetta Bane held against the Jedi was fulfilled during the Clone Wars, when Supreme Chancellor Palpatine, secretly the Sith Lord Darth Sidious and a follower of the Rule of Two, transformed the Galactic Republic into the Galactic Empire in 19 BBY and destroyed the Jedi Order. Darth Bane's Rule of Two doctrine planted the seeds to allow the Sith to amass power in the shadows and to garner the strength necessary to get their revenge against the Jedi Order. Darth Bane's Sith Rule of Two was instrumental in the Sith's ability to slowly work at toppling the Jedi Order and the Galactic Republic, and Darth Bane was crucial in the success of the Sight Grand Plan. During the Prequels and Original Trilogy, the Darth Bane's Sith Rule of Two was on full Display. Although Darth Sidious strayed from this doctrine at times, Sidious did adhere somewhat to Darth Bane's Sith Rule of two by taking on the Sith Lord Darth Maul as his apprentice, followed by Darth Tyrannus aka Count Dooku, and then finally Darth Vader. Darth Bane's Sith Rule of Two allowed for Darth Sidious to become the pinnacle of Sith power that could supplant the Jedi Order and Galactic Republic as the predominant institutions of power in the Star Wars galaxy. Darth Bane's Rule of Two ensured the relationship between a Sith Master and their apprentice was not one of trust; indeed, both the master and the apprentice constantly searched for any sign of weakness in the other, for a weak master deserved to be overthrown by their pupil, just as a weak pupil deserved to be replaced by a worthier, more powerful recruit. As the only surviving Sith, Bane recognized that Sith infighting had weakened them to the point that the Jedi could destroy them. To rectify this, Bane reformed the Sith and created the Rule of Two, mandating that there could be only two Sithโa Master and an apprenticeโat any given time. These new Sith would begin a plot to destroy the Jedi and conquer the galaxy in secret. With Bane's defeat at the hands of his apprentice, Darth Zannah, allegedly on the Inner Rim planet of Ambria, the Jedi wrongly believed that the Sith were defeated with him, as the galaxy entered a millennium-long era of peace. The vendetta Bane held against the Jedi was fulfilled during the Clone Wars when Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine, secretly the Sith Lord Darth Sidious and a follower of the Rule of Two, transformed the Galactic Republic into the Galactic Empire in 19 BBY and destroyed the Jedi Order. However, the victory was short-lived, as the redeemed Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker, formerly the Sith Lord Darth Vader, defeated the Sith twenty-three years later, and the order was finally destroyed upon Sidious's final death in 35 ABY. Because of the importance of Darth Bane's Rule of Two, will Star Wars fans get to see this doctrine play out in the upcoming Disney+ Series The Acolyte? Will Star Wars fans get to see how the Sith Rule of Two was followed and implemented during the waning days of The High Republic? Since the Acolyte will focus on the emergence of dark side powers in the final days of the High Republic Era, it stands to reason that the series will showcase the Sith operating during this time period. If that's the case, Star Wars fans could very well get to see the Rule of Two play out in the upcoming Disney+ series. The Acolyte is being described as a female-centric, mystery-thriller that will be created by Leslye Headland. Darth Bane can be considered one, if not, the most important Sith Lords to have lived. Darth Bane's foresight and acumen allowed for the Sith Order to slowly but surely rise from the ashes to eventually topple both the Jedi Order and Galactic Republic.
