| Video Discription | Hi everyone, I’m Brian. We recently started hosting our swimming pool on Swimply, a by the hour pool rental service. I want to share with you the pros and cons we’ve experienced after three months on the platform. Swimply is an app that allows you to list your private pool for rent by the hour. Swimmers can search for pools in their local area, find a pool that meets their needs, and book it by the hour. We decided to give it a try this year because we have a pretty unique backyard. Even though we live in a colder climate near Seattle, Washington, our yard is filled with palm trees, banana plants, and other tropical plants. Pros Money! We’ve made over $11k this summer even with taking vacations and reserving days for family and friends to swim. We’ve met alot of really interesting people and made some new friends. We’ve hosted birthday parties, photo shoots, work events, and families just looking to have a good time. Pool expenses become business expenses. This includes chemicals, water, cost to heat the pool, as well as other upgrades that make it easier to keep the pool clean. We get to share our unique, tropical yard. People can feel like they’ve escaped for an afternoon to a tropical paradise without having to go very far or spend very much money. Cons Swimply is a young company with young company problems. Sometimes the app doesn’t work well. They changed the way search works in the middle of summer, causing difficulty for swimmers looking for pools. They are struggling a bit to scale and sometimes it shows. This is work, not free money. From more pool maintenance to more sweeping and yard cleanup, we spend several hours a week making sure guests have a clean, attractive spot to come swim. Guests can be a problem sometimes. All summer we only had one guest that I had to talk to, but it does happen and you’ve got to be ready for potential confrontation. So far, the pros have outweighed the cons. We plan on continuing on as hosts and are working on figuring out what our business model will be for the winter. Watch for more videos on how the experience has gone for us.
