| Video Discription | Today we have a panel of folks that are going to help me formalize the specific issues with the Heat and Radiation problems for Young Earth Creationism! That way, any creationists who feel they have the answer to such problems have their work cut out for them :) This panel features people with formal education backgrounds in Physics and Geology. PROBLEMS AND FAILED SOLUTIONS: 1) There is no support for accelerated nuclear decay (See video for why fission tracks/Helium in Zircons do not work) 2) Assuming accelerated nuclear decay COULD find support, the heat for the two models looks like this and needs to be mitigated: Catastrophic Plate Tectonics which is the “model” held by most big YEC organizations, results in enough heat to vaporize the granite crust of the Earth several times over (as per the math of the YECs). This includes the heat form the friction of the continents moving to their current positions, accelerated nuclear decay and all impact events. Hydroplate, which is held by fringe YECs, results in the heat equivalent to 5000 trillion 1 megaton Hydrogen Bombs (as per the math of the creator, Walt Brown). This is 2.2 * 10^38 ergs of energy. This includes heat from all of the above, but also the energy required to eject all the earth material into space to account for all solar system cratering. 3) Professional Young Earth Creationists understand this is currently an insurmountable problem: "In answer to another question, I do believe that in order to cool the 60-70-80-100km thick ocean lithosphere, that in a Catastrophic Plate Tectonics scenario had to be generated at a mid-ocean ridge during the Flood, in order to get rid of all that heat in that thick layer, thermal conductivity could not do it. Even hydro-thermal circulation will only cool the uppermost part of it. I believe it had to involve God's intervention to cool that rock down." (Baumgardener) "Using the two processes [accelerated radioactive decay and cooling], God could adjust temperatures in the rocks to whatever He wanted – temperatures both rising and falling, during both periods, the Antediluvian age and the year of the Flood.” (Humphreys) The RATE Project: "The authors admit that a young-earth position cannot be reconciled with the scientific data without assuming that exotic solutions will be discovered in the future. No known thermodynamic process could account for the required rate of heat removal nor is there any known way to protect organisms from radiation damage..." 4) Failed mitigations and additional problems: Radiation of foods: Thousands of times the lethal dose due to accelerated nuclear decay (PROBLEM) Piezoelectric effect: Stripping electrons stop some of the decay, energy for the electric field would result in plasma formation, which is lethal to all sea life and ark inhabitants. (FAILED MITIGATION) Space as a Heat Sink: Reaching it is difficult, requires de laval nozzle, also results in superheating the atmosphere. (FAILED MITIGATION) Z pinch: "Explains" heavy element formation, not actually accelerated decay. Drastically worsens heat by orders of magnitude. (FAILED MITIGATION) Hypercanes: Gets rid of less than 0.2% of heat, assuming earth covering hurricanes, assumed rainfall 50 times larger than ICR’s Hypercanes. But this is also not possible because hurricanes are functions of the size of the planet and require pressure differentials. Also rejects heat into the atmosphere rather than space. (FAILED MITIGATION) Orbital mechanics: ejecta requires several earths worth of mass, 200 million Hiroshimas of heat per 2 meter per second for the 140 days. (PROBLEM for HYDROPLATE) Space Expansion: Was never non-supernatural due to consequences (FAILED MITIGATION) Directed heat: heat exchange in the atmosphere is still lethal, needs to occur there to fall back down as rain. (FAILED MITIGATION) Coal as a heat sink: has diagnostic characteristics that can differentiate between observed coal (which takes a long period of time) and "rapid" coal formed in experimental conditions. We only observe the former in nature. (FAILED MITIGATION) Massive amounts of ice in the Pre-Flood World: Global ice coverage has isotopic diagnostic conditions, which are not observed in "Flood Rock" (Cam-Cret).
