Theodor Morell - Nazi Quack Doctor who Turned Hitler into a Farting Drug Addicted Junkie.
Theodor Morell joined the Nazi Party in 1933. In 1936 Hoffman arranged for him to visit Hitler at the Berghof, which was Adolf Hitler's mountain residence on the Obersalzberg in the mountains of Bavaria. Morell was able to help the Führer with his gastrointestinal problems such as flatulence which made most of his dinner parties intolerable.
In Morell's records, Hitler always appears as "Patient A".
When Hitler was troubled with grogginess in the morning, Morell would inject him with a solution of water mixed with a substance from several small, gold-foiled packets, which he called "Vitamultin". Hitler would arise, refreshed and invigorated.
On at least one occasion, Hitler ordered his private train stopped so that Morell could inject him without worrying about the train jostling.
Morell kept a medical diary of the drugs, tonics, vitamins and other substances he administered to Hitler, usually by injection - up to 20 times per day - or in pill form. Most were commercial preparations while some were Morell's own mixes. The substances administered to Adolf Hitler included commercial poisons as well as psychoactive drugs such as heroin, cocaine, adrenaline – via eye drops and methamphetamine which since 1938, was marketed on a large scale in Germany as a nonprescription drug under the brand name Pervitin.
"A soldier going to battle on Pervitin usually found himself unable to perform effectively for the next day or two. Suffering from a drug hangover and looking more like a zombie than a great warrior, he had to recover from the side effects."
Some soldiers turned violent, committing war crimes against civilians; others even attacked their own officers
By 1944, Morell developed a hostile rivalry with Dr. Karl Brandt, who had been attending Hitler since 1934. Though criticized by Brandt and other physicians, Morell was always "restored to favor" by his Führer.
Theodor Morell benefited from his relationship with Hitler also financially. During the war years, Morell bought factories in which he had, among other things, hormone preparations, vitamin concentrates and a lice powder called "Russla" manufactured.
On the 16th of January 1945 Hitler took up residence in the Führerbunker under the Reich Chancellery which became the centre of the Nazi regime until the last week of World War II in Europe. One of the occupants of the Führerbunker was Hitler’s loyal physician Theodor Morell.
By April 1945, Hitler was taking many pills a day, along with numerous injections. The personal notes of Morell describe how he treated Hitler over the years, including notations such as, "injection as always", and, "Eukodal", an early German trade name for the opioid oxycodone, a highly addictive and a commonly abused drug. Onset of pain relief typically begins within fifteen minutes and lasts for up to six hours with the immediate-release formulation. However, there are common side effects which include not only euphoria but also constipation, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, drowsiness, dizziness, itching, dry mouth, and sweating. Severe side effects may include addiction and dependence, substance abuse, depression or mania, irritability or hallucinations.
Morell diagnosed Parkinson’s only two weeks before Hitler died. When on the occasion of his birthday on the 20th of April 1945, Adolf Hitler welcomed members of the Hitler Youth, some looked puzzled, even horrified, as the Führer with his coat collar turned up and one arm shaking as a result of Parkinson’s disease, worked his way down the line of these doomed children.
Adolf Hitler permitted Theodor Morell to leave the bunker which he did by aircraft on a plane that left Berlin on the 23rd of April. However, Morell had left Hitler his medications which Hitler continued to take until his bitter end.
On the 29th of April 1945, as Red Army troops fought their way into the center government district, Adolf Hitler married his longtime companion Eva Braun during a brief civil ceremony; she was 33 and he was 56 years old. Less than forty hours later, they died by suicide in a sitting room of the bunker.
When Morell was captured by American forces and interrogated on the 18th of May 1945.
Theodor Morell was 61 years old when he died in a Tegernsee hospital on the 26th of May 1948.
