| Video Discription | Much like a line of dialogue from Sylvester Stallone, this one's a bit of a mystery. For more than a century, tiger's-eye was thought to be a pseudomorph mineral; quartz replaced the original asbestos (crocidolite) crystals but retained their fibrous shape. However, a new theory suggests that tiger's-eye forms through a series of crack-and-seal events in which quartz and asbestos grow simultaneously after the rock periodically breaks. This mechanism explains the banded appearance and the embedded oxidized crocidolite produces a silky golden sheen or chatoyance ("cat's-eye") effect.
