Top ranking schools support an applicant build personal brands, move up the corporate ladder, learn new skills and strengthen the skills an applicant already possesses, and the applicant can have an upper hand with the recruiter. Meeting people from diverse backgrounds can open new avenues to network efficiently and make valuable contacts worldwide. Interaction with alumni, other students, CEOs of top companies, industry leaders and attending guest lectures of people who matter may give an unimaginable insight. I am Dr Vinita Singh and have been in education industry for more than three decades with qualitative experience in admissions consulting. Working as an admissions consultant I have helped hundreds of students get invites and admits from top Business Schools like ISB, IIMs, Oxford, Insead, Wharton, Chicago, MIT, Duke, Ross, NTU and many more through face to face and on-line classes. Here is the process I have followed in my video series for MBA Admissions for Top Business Schools from Concept to Completion to help MBA aspirants handle the admissions process for top business schools.
Know yourself and what you want from an MBA. It is important to see which school will provide the courses that will be most useful, the connections that will matter the most for the job and the region in which an applicant wishes to be employed, the academic and social environment there, and other key factors. Conduct in-depth research to evaluate specific programs. My videos will give an insight into varied essay questions or statement of purpose and recommendations. It will help an applicant decide his or her strategy to market himself or herself effectively. Most of the schools have online applications, however, an applicant must be completely aware of the online tools. Be ready with data sheets (academic, professional, and personal information), transcripts, GMAT score, TOEFL score, SOP or essays, recommendations, and resume. Career progression, community and voluntary activities, Personal accomplishments and experiences, career ambitions can be evaluated through an applicant’s resume, statement of purpose or essays, recommendations, and interviews.
Academic Potential is judged based on GPA, GMAT scores, designations, and the additional courses. Similarly, for GMAT, an applicant needs to be clear about the competitive GMAT score by studying the pattern of high, low, and average GMAT scores of various business schools. An applicant is required to show leadership, make an impact, motivate, initiate, interact, mentor, take responsibility, handle a team etc., and add other dimensions to your profile. Your community profile is also significant. Age and experience are two important determinants when an applicant applies to business schools. This video will assist an applicant comprehend his or her strengths, weaknesses, skill sets related to professional and personal background, education, work experience, achievements, and goals. Diversity is important for the business schools while selecting the students. Understanding this will help an applicant maximize chances of getting admit from the dream school.
Get to know the schools better. Look at Reputation/Rankings, Location, Class Size, Teaching Method, Core Curriculum, Recruiting, Specialization, Alumni Base, Facilities, Professors. Social media can support hugely in this, send a mail, read blogs, get in touch with the admissions office. If possible, visit schools, check web sites, look at the clubs and assess why this school. You need to have a good understanding of the school. Convince the school that you are a good fit. Apply to a number of programs with complete knowledge of the right program, work domain, place, climatic condition, and the school atmosphere.
