| Video Discription | Trieste is one of Italy's gems. Located near the border of Slovenia, it's a beautiful city that's well worth a visit. ⚓️ The city of Trieste is on the Adriatic sea and has nice weather all year round. Winter doesn't get too cold and Summer is hot but not unbearable. There's so many things do in Trieste, Italy and we filmed the best bits for our Trieste travel vlog! I'd highly recommend a Trieste city break! Trieste has got a really beautiful city centre, especially the area around Unity Square or Piazza Unità d'Italia. It's the largest seafront square in Europe and because of this, it never feels packed or crowded. A lot of cruise ships dock right beside Unity Square which is great if you're visiting for the day! Trieste has an interesting history being part of Austria-Hungary before becoming part of Italy. It was independent for a while after World War II before becoming part of Italy again! Obviously, given its history, there's a lot of different influences in Trieste. Food can be very Italian but probably not as much as other parts of Italy. The city has a lot of Roman ruins, particularly around the San Giusto Hill. This is where the San Giusto castle is located. It's worth a visit. The Hapsburg influence is seen in the grand buildings in Trieste but most notably in Miramare Castle. It was commissioned by Archduke Maximillian, brother of Emperor Franz Josef. He'd later become Emperor of Mexico. Miramare Castle is probably one of the nicest castles we've been to and is in really beautiful surroundings. It was designed by Carl Junker and is a must see if you're visiting Trieste! We loved it! Lonely Planet once called Trieste one of the most underrated tourist destinations in the world and I can see why. It's incredibly beautiful but not jammed with tourists like nearby Venice.
