| Video Discription | Tens of thousands of people attended the annual Camel Wrestling Championship in Selcuk, Turkey on Sunday. The event sees one hundred and thirty male camels decked out in huge bead-embroidered saddles, veil-draped headdresses and fluorescent pompoms compete in pairs for the affections of a female camel. The males naturally fight for their females during mating season and their readiness to do battle is visible in the white froth coming from their mouths, the tension in their hind legs and their tails whipping at their backs. There is no overall winner of the competition but rather, for every pair that wrestles, there is a camel that wins. For a winner to be declared, one of the camels has to run out of the arena or fall to the ground. Most matches end in ties because their owners fear their prized camels could be harmed. Owning a good fighter is a sign of power, and many village leaders buy them to emphasise their positions. For more than 100 years, camel wrestling has drawn crowds in western Turkey during the winter months which is camel mating season and a time when farmers have little to do on their fields. This year's competition offered a Turkish carpet as its main prize.
