In this episode of "How to Norway", Dag and Katarina share a few points on what makes a fjord a fjord: - The water in a fjord is seawater! A fjord is connected to the ocean, so it’s like a backwards ocean river going INTO the country! - The fjords are a result of the ice age! The ice carved out U-shaped valleys that got filled with seawater. - A fjord has to be longer than it is wide. - Norway is the country in the world that is best known for having fjords. - The word "fjord" is a Norwegian word used in many languages. - Being home to more than 1,200 fjords, Norway has the second longest coastline in the world.
