We'll be looking at the declining health of Walker Lake in Nevada. Walker Lake is an important natural resource in the region, but it has been steadily shrinking for decades. The lake has lost approximately 181,000 acre-feet of water, or about 46% of its volume, since the 1800s. This decline is due to a range of factors, including agricultural diversions, increased groundwater pumping, and climate change. The shrinking of Walker Lake has had a range of negative impacts on the environment and the people who depend on the lake. The lake is an important habitat for a variety of fish and wildlife species, many of which are now threatened or endangered. The decline in the lake's water levels has also led to increased salinity, which has had negative impacts on water quality and aquatic ecosystems.
