Even though stainless steel and white gold watches look pretty similar, the price discrepancy between some models can change dramatically. Out of the most popular luxury brands, I would say that Rolex carries the most options when it comes to watches in white gold, so I'm mainly going to focus the examples on this video to both steel and white gold Rolex timepieces. A good example of white gold versus stainless is that of the Rolex Pepsi that was just released in stainless steel. Even though the retail price of the stainless steel version is $9,000, the watch is going for over twice the retail price in the actual market! You will not be able to pick up a new stainless Pepsi for less than $18,000! Due to this inflated market price, I would simply prefer to pick up a pre-owned, white gold model for the $26k to $27k they're going for right now. You'll be getting the precious metal, which is always a plus. So should you buy a stainless watch or one in white gold? I guess it all depends on your objective. For example, here in Miami, the white gold watches are really slow sellers. Why? Because people like to show off! As a result, they prefer the rose or yellow gold watches. However, if you had a nice position in an office setting, the white gold might be the right option for you. You'll fly more under the radar, which will be something that people might find more agreeable, but still will have the status of owning a gold watch. I particularly like that. In fact, I love it when people mistake my white gold watches for stainless and ask me if I'm wearing a stainless steel watch. Even though there is a difference in color between white gold and stainless steel (with the white gold being a little more off-color than the steel), the untrained eye will probably not see much of a difference...so it will always come down to taste and of course, budget!
