| Video Discription | Transparency of a glass comes from the fact that a quantum of light or Photon as you may call it can pass through an molecule of glass without getting absorbed. The glass is made up off silica, some minerals, lime stone, etc. These ingredients are molten in extremely high temperature and poured into molds of desirable shape to form the glass. When a photon hits any other opaque object such as metals they are absorbed since they have enough energy to send the orbiting electron to a higher orbit or energy level. But when a photon hits the glass it is unable to send the electrons to a higher level since the energy levels are too high and light just doesn't have enough energy, but when it comes to other electromagnetic wave such as UV Rays they get absorbed since they have enough energy and this is why you don't get a sun tan when you are under a glass.
