| Video Discription | Throughout the Second World War, there were many female guards who worked inside of concentration camps at sites such as Bergen-Belsen and Auschwitz. Following the liberation of Bergen-Belsen, there were a number of women who were accused of being guards and of horrific crimes such as execution, torture and inflicting mass suffering. After the war at the Belsen Trials, Irma Grese, Johanna Borman and Elisabeth Volkenrath who had all worked at Auschwitz were condemned to death for their involvement of crimes in both camps. The three women were all taken to Hamelin Prison and they were held for a number of months before the executions were performed by British executioner Albert Pierrepoint. The women were led into the execution chamber and were swiftly walked up the stairs of the gallows before Pierrepoint secured the rope and then released the trapdoor.
