| Video Discription | Welcome to world cup travelers. In today's video, we will review the new qualifying format from Asia (AFC) for the 2026 world cup. With the new 48-team expansion, Asia will go from 4 direct slots and 1 playoff slot to 8 direct slots and 1 playoff slot, competing in the following format: Based on FIFA ranking, the top 36 teams have been divided into nine groups of four. the lowest-ranked teams will match up in a playoff to remain in the qualification group. The top two teams from each group will advance to the next round. The 18 qualified teams will then be divided into 3 groups of 6. They will again play home and away matches against each other with the top 2 teams per group qualifying directly for the 2026 world cup. The third and fourth places from each group will move on to the final round for another opportunity. These 6 teams will be divided into 2 groups of 3. The top team in each group will qualify directly for the world cup. The two-second places will match against each other. The winner will advance to the intercontinental playoff.
