| Video Discription | Raga Chandra Kauns is traditionally performed during the nighttime hours. The name "Chandra" itself signifies the moon, which sets the tone for a serene and romantic atmosphere under the starlit sky. Currently, there are multiple variations of this raga that are popular. The Bageshri ang, featured in the video, is one of them. Another version is the Malkauns ang, which is essentially the Raga Malkauns with the Tivar Ni instead of the Komal Ni. Despite sharing the same name, the Malkauns ang is considered more fashionable in contemporary times. Ashwin, who learned both versions of the raga from his father Pandit Shiv D. Batish, is well-versed in both forms. He currently serves as the Indian music professor at the University of California in Santa Cruz and has developed the curriculum for various North Indian classical music courses there.
