Walker and Juan Sagaseta (University of Surrey) present their work on composite materials for this concrete shells. The recent innovation and developments in composite materials and novel fabrication techniques have strengthened the aspiration of engineers to develop and construct large-scale thin concrete shells. The great technological advancements and the renewed architectural tendency towards curved geometries have also stimulated the interest of designers/ engineers over the years, who now teer towards more sophisticated and non-standard geometries. The design and construction of the KnitCandela pavilion (Block Research Group 2018) provides an original contribution in the field of spatial thin shells. The present study focuses on assessing the buckling behaviour of the KnitCandela shell, both numerically and experimentally.
