This temple was built in 8th century by Pallavas, afterthat Cholas built and developed, Entrance Gopura and other implementation done by Vijayanagara Empire. The Great sage Manikavasagar sang song "Thiruvempaavai" infront of Aadhi Annamalaiyar.
